Professionalism & Leadership at Every Level

Keeping it current: Relating to & leading new(er) librarians

Librarians with many years of experience managing libraries often express a desire to stay connected to new librarians and learn how to cultivate their new and innovative ideas. At annual meetings, it is overheard that library managers and experienced librarians feel very disconnected from new(er) librarians. In fact, library directors and managers often do not know what new(er) librarians expect from them especially when it comes to mentoring and development. This program would explore what new(er) librarians want and expect from experienced librarians and how both sides can learn from the other. The program could be an evolving discussion from a panel discussion with experience and new(er) librarians (1-3 years experience) to small group discussions.
