Reaching Adult Learners

Most of the individuals we provide education and training to are adults and have a different attitude and approach to learning. It would be nice to learn some of the techniques that are effective in keeping adult learners interested and focused.

Teaching law practice technology/management classes

More and more librarians are being called upon to teach law practice management and/or law practice technology courses. It is so rampant that a caucus has been created on this topic. It would be great for a session or sessions to focus on: curriculum design, helpful vendors, what has worked/not worked at other schools, and what the firms want new associates to know with regards to technology.

Preventing plagiarism

Plagiarism is a fine line in law schools. We tell students not to plagiarize while also showing them forms and templates and ignoring real world reuse of materials. How do we 1) Teach students about plagiarism in an effective way, and 2) explain the difference between academia and real world practices?

Instructional librarians are increasing being called upon to produce practice-ready students, and similarly, to tailor their ALR classes to meet ABA simulation course standards. Neuroeducational Research & Teaching

There are serious questions regarding the role that a better understanding of neuroscience can play in how we educate students. This program will separate popular myth from promising research and tell us what from the field of brain science, if anything, we can apply in the classroom.

Library Services for Communities Living in Fear

In 2015, Baltimore experienced massive protests against police brutality and in reaction to the death of 25-years old Freddie Gray. Assessment Grab Bag: Venturing Beyond the Traditional

Treasure hunts and research memos are the norm for assessing students in legal research courses, and each have their merits: treasure hunt questions allow the instructor to test students on specific research techniques and resources, and research memos give students practice engaging in the entire legal research process, while also testing their writing skills, another shortcoming often cited in practitioner surveys. ...more »

Reaching Out to Public Librarians for Access to Justice

In many places public law libraries are difficult to access or not open to the public at all. In those communities there is still a need for legal information and public librarians are in a perfect position to provide assistance if we help them learn the basics of legal research. This is an opportunity in A2J for any law librarian who wants to offer assistance, not just those in public facing positions.
